Day #1 Part B
Yesterday we travelled through North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi. We had originally planned to spend the night in Birmingham Alabama, but the nice gentleman at the Alabama welcome station informed us that there is a race in Taladega this weekend. He said if we hadn’t already locked in a hotel rate, we might be in for a surprise since they start raising rates for a week before the race. As we drove by the track from the interstate, we saw a sea of RVs and campers parked for the big event. There were at least a couple of thousand and the race isn’t even until Sunday.
We ended up driving about 130 miles further and sleeping in Tupelo, MS. Who’s ever heard of Tupelo? Well, apparently it is the birth place of Elvis Presley. Today we head on to Clarksdale, MS; Memphis, TN; and maybe even Little Rock.
