Back In NYC!

I’m back! My trip took 35 days (from NC back to NC.) We travelled 10k miles and through 27 states! It was a blast! I got to catch up with some old friends and see things I could have never imagined. I feel very fortunate to have been able to take such a trip. I [...]

Back

We made it back to NC safely. So tired. Have one day to wash, repack, do chores and see family. Will recap tomorrow, hopefully. Flying back to NY Friday.

Day 34: On The Way Home

While I thought it was just going to be another day of driving through the pouring rain, mother nature took it easy on us until later in the afternoon and we had another really nice drive. It was pretty uneventful for the most part. We didn’t even stop as we drove through St. Louis because [...]

The Sun Is Shining?

We made it through the night. There was a lot of wind and lightning. I don’t know exactly how much rain came down. Strangely, you wouldn’t know it by looking outside this morning. The sun is shining and traffic zooming along on the highway. Unfortunately, the forecast includes more severe weather later today. We’re gonna [...]

Day 33: More Storms

Hey, Toto, there’s a reason we didn’t visit Kansas, dangit!
Today we drove from Nebraska into Iowa and then Missouri (completely bypassing Kansas.) At first, we were impressed with the number and size of all the corn fields. Then, I turned on the radio and heard yet another National Weather Service alert. It is scary hearing [...]

Day 32: Tired. Short Update Tonight

I am getting pretty tired. Result: short update tonight. This morning we drove through the Badlands National Park. Erosion has created these magnificent rock formations. Similar to the Painted Desert, all the different colors are a result of various minerals. As clouds alter the sunlight, the rocks appear to change color. Pretty trippy.
After the Badlands, [...]

Day 31: My Advice - Skip Rushmore, Visit Crazy Horse

Today we drove into South Dakota. We planned to see Mt. Rushmore, the Crazy Horse monument, and Custer National Park.
First we went to Mt. Rushmore, and as expected, there were the heads of 4 old white guys carved into the mountain. It was great and everything, but unlike the Grand Canyon or the great Sequoias, [...]

Day 30: The Day of Weather

It snowed today! Yes, it snowed today as I dove through 9,000+ ft mountain pass. As if that weren’t strange enough, when we reached the bottom of the mountain, I saw the biggest, scariest, darkest-blue clouds I had ever seen in my life, looming on the horizon. As I drove closer, I watched the most [...]

Day 29: My Day at Yellowstone

A-MAZ-ING! If you’ve never been, you must go. If you have been, you should go again. Soon.
Along with a pet elephant and an ostrich ranch, I would also like to have some buffalo one day. I saw more bison today than I did at the bison refuge earlier in the week. They just roam [...]

Day28: Observations From the Road

#1. My Road Trip iPod Mixes would be much more enjoyable if more than one speaker in the Blazer actually worked
#2. Apparently the states Oregon and Washington have a different definition of the word “resort.” Apparently, in these states you own and operate a “resort” if your place large enough to park 2 R.V.’s out [...]

About Sam Gomez

This is my lil' workshop on the web. I created it to let my friends and family know what's going on with me. It quickly became a place for me to rant about my feelings and publicly humiliate myself - not that I needed yet another medium. Generally, I just share whatever is on my mind (stories, photos, etc.) Read the full about me.
