Day28: Observations From the Road

#1. My Road Trip iPod Mixes would be much more enjoyable if more than one speaker in the Blazer actually worked

#2. Apparently the states Oregon and Washington have a different definition of the word “resort.” Apparently, in these states you own and operate a “resort” if your place large enough to park 2 R.V.’s out back.

#3. In Montana, if you have 2 slot machines, you own and operate the best casino in the area.

Today’s Journey:

We went to Glacier National Park. The Going to the Sun Rd. wasn’t completely open, so we didn’t get the full effect. 18 miles down the 53 mile road, we had to turn around at the locked gate. Basically, we drove through a forrest and saw a bunch of snow covered mountains. Obviously there is more to it than that, so I’ll have to go back one day when the whole road is open.

I am not disappointed, really. It was still beautiful. Lake McDonald was so calm and clear, you could even see the reflection of the mountains in the water. Also, the bed of the lake was covered with rounded, brightly colored stones. Over millions of years, pieces of the mountains have been chipped away, smoothed and washed down into the lake.

Since the road was closed, we decided to head down towards Yellowstone instead of driving completely around the park to see the 10-or-so miles of the road that were open on the other end. We ended up driving another 400 miles today!

BTW, Montana is big. The speed limit is 70 even on the back roads - and it still feels like you are going slow!

At some point we passed this lot with animals that look like giant deer. Really, these deer-like animals were the size of horses. I assume they are elk, but they don’t look anything like the elk we saw earlier in OR.

About Sam Gomez

This is my lil' workshop on the web. I created it to let my friends and family know what's going on with me. It quickly became a place for me to rant about my feelings and publicly humiliate myself - not that I needed yet another medium. Generally, I just share whatever is on my mind (stories, photos, etc.) Read the full about me.
