Life Update: Residence

Man, the last month or so has been a blur. We’ve been dealing with all the various wedding details. Who would have thought that there were that many different shades of green? Actually, I am being overly dramatic. Heidi’s dealt with most of the details. I’ve just provided input where needed.

It is hard to believe that in a little over a week, I will be a married man.

So, for those who are confused, here’s what’s gonna happen. Basically, we’re having four parties. Instead of asking everyone to travel around the world, we’re gonna do the traveling and bring the party with us.

Next weekend the immediate family will join us on Daufuskie Island, near Hilton Head, SC. We will have a very small wedding on the beach. After spending a couple of days honeymooning in a lighthouse there on the Island, we’ll head up to OH for a party with Heidi’s family and friends during Labor Day weekend. In mid October, we’ll fly down to NC to do something similar with my friends and family in NC. Finally, we now have a place tentatively booked for NYC. As of now, our NYC party will take place on Nov 3 at Bohemian Hall. NYC folks, please save the date. We’ll have more official details shortly.

This has been quite a fantastic process. I didn’t know quite how it would work, since our families are so far away. It was a little difficult explaining to my aunts and uncle that weren’t going to be able to have everyone at the actual wedding. My uncle was extremely understanding, but the (little old maid) aunts didn’t quite follow. I tried to explain that the NC party is specifically for them and they may come and invite whoever they want to the NC party, but given the logistics and fact we’re paying for everything, we can’t have everyone at the actual wedding. They still kept asking when the actual wedding was going to take place so they could make plans. The only part that they seemed to understand was the fact that we are having the NC party at a place in my hometown, about a mile from where they live - they were pleased because it was close enough that they can drive.

We still don’t have a place to live, just yet. I hear that it is tradition that the bride and groom live together after they are married. Since we are throwing all other traditions out the window, this one may have to go too, at least for a couple of weeks. We have been looking for places in Forrest Hills (Queens), but nothing’s worked out quite yet. At this point, we’ll probably live as nomads until we can get that squared away.

Lots of stuff going on at work, too. I can’t go into detail, but some of those 12-14 hour days have laid the groundwork for some really exciting projects.

Glad to see you had time to make a post in the last month. I was considering removing your blog from my favorites. :)

About Sam Gomez

This is my lil' workshop on the web. I created it to let my friends and family know what's going on with me. It quickly became a place for me to rant about my feelings and publicly humiliate myself - not that I needed yet another medium. Generally, I just share whatever is on my mind (stories, photos, etc.) Read the full about me.
