The Road to Paradise

We travelled for something like 20 hours today. We’re both pretty exhausted.

Why must they still tell airline passengers how to use a seatbelt? I mean, I could understand this 25 years ago when everyone didn’t use a seatbelt, but today they are absolutely commonplace. And while some people still may not use seatbelts in their cars, they are not really that difficult to figure out. I mean, if you can’t figure out how to fasten your seatbelt, should you really even be flying by yourself? How did you even get to the airport?

So many people told me to be prepared for a long plane ride, that I ended up bringing an entire library with me on the plane. I read more today than I think I’ve ever read in a single day. I read some work stuff that I’d been wanting catch-up on for a long time. (Yeah, I know. No work for the rest of the week - just some reading on the plane.) I also started reading a book that Heidi’s aunt wrote called, “Why Can’t Sharon Kowalski Come Home?” (You’ll likely hear more about this from me in the next couple of weeks.)

The only other interesting story came from the plane ride. On the second flight (the one from San Fran to Honolulu,) we sat near this guy with a little baby. The baby was incredibly well-behaved until a couple of hours into the flight when the lil’ fella got hungry. At that point, it was quite obvious that the dad was struggling to hold things together by himself. He’d already spilled half the bottle that he was trying to make, so Heidi offered to hold the baby while he finished making the bottle. The 14 yr old Hawaiian girl, who sat on the other side of me and hadn’t said a word the entire trip, then took one look at Heidi and leaned over and said, “She’s ready.” (Yes, a 14 yr girl, that I’d never met, busted my chops on the plane.)

About Sam Gomez

This is my lil' workshop on the web. I created it to let my friends and family know what's going on with me. It quickly became a place for me to rant about my feelings and publicly humiliate myself - not that I needed yet another medium. Generally, I just share whatever is on my mind (stories, photos, etc.) Read the full about me.
