Looking For: MLK Scholars

Posted by Sam under: Classifieds .

When I was in college, I was a member of the MLK Scholars Program at NYU. A merit-based scholarship program, it was designed to bring together students from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds. As members of the Program, we participated in various seminars, domestic and international travel colloquia, research, educational and cultural activities, and community service. To be frank, if it were not for this program, I would have never be able to attend NYU. Many of my fondest college memories are with this group.

On Thursday night, I went to a reunion celebrating the group’s 20th anniversary. While in college, I never really thought too much of it - we all struggled to make good grades and fit in, just like every other college student - but these guys were among some of the brightest in the US. Among our alum are now doctors, lawyers, priests, professors, entrepreneurs, Broadway actors, film makers, businessmen and women, leaders in not-for-profit, etc. (We even have a celebrity blogger.) The reunion was fantastic. I got to see familiar faces and catch up with old friends.

A year or two ago, I created groups on MySpace and Facebook, in attempt to keep us more in touch with one another. Actually, it has. I’ve heard from several people from as far away as Hawaii.

Anyway, I was looking through some old college files and found a few pages that listed some names. I thought I would post them, in the event 1.) anyone Googled him/herself or 2.) someone knew how to reach one or more of these individuals. In either case, alum are encouraged to join the MLK Scholars Group on Facebook.

Also, if you have lists from other years, feel free to post here or on Facebook.

Hi Sam,
It is so funny, I just made a website and decided to google myself to see if it came up, and it didn’t. But even better, your page did. I hope everything is going well for you.

About Sam Gomez

This is my lil' workshop on the web. I created it to let my friends and family know what's going on with me. It quickly became a place for me to rant about my feelings and publicly humiliate myself - not that I needed yet another medium. Generally, I just share whatever is on my mind (stories, photos, etc.) Read the full about me.
