Work’s Going Well - Weekend Had Some Snaffu’s

The past two weeks may have been the best two weeks of my career. None of my daily work has really gotten done, but I’ve laid the groundwork for some really exciting stuff over the coming months. Friday, the top dogs came in early so that I could run thru some of the stuff I’ve been working on. They seemed pleased with my report. I have approval for two new staff members. They are also going to give me an A&R resource to help find/identify new digital only releases - stuff that’s out of print or never been released. There’s also a new guy in the Global Digital Business Group who is helping with several of my projects.

Over the weekend, Heidi and I went to Ohio for her cousin’s wedding. I had to leave work early so that I could up sitting on the runway for more than an hour and a half. Great. On my way out the door (and after I had already intended to leave,) I realized that I needed to purchase train tickets for a business meeting in Phily on Monday. I thought I could just put it on my card and then get reimbursed, but I guess that’s not how it is supposed to work. One of our finance folks ran around helping me fill out all the proper forms, since I had no prior paperwork as a Sony BMG employee.

Sunday night, while on our way to the airport for our return flight, we got the message that our flight had been cancelled. Apparently, all other flights and carriers were already overbooked and oversold. We even tried flying to anywhere on the eastern seaboard, in hopes we could drive the rest of the way. Nothing was available. They ended up putting us in a hotel and booking us on a 10:30 flight the following morning, but said we could try to fly stand-by on an earlier flight. Desperate to make this meeting, we got up at 3:30 to wait in line and not get on the flight. I ended up not making the meeting in Phily. What an annoyance.

About Sam Gomez

This is my lil' workshop on the web. I created it to let my friends and family know what's going on with me. It quickly became a place for me to rant about my feelings and publicly humiliate myself - not that I needed yet another medium. Generally, I just share whatever is on my mind (stories, photos, etc.) Read the full about me.
