The Wedding

The wedding was fantastic! I spent most of the day entertaining my mom, Heidi’s grandmother and Heidi’s aunt. We drove around Daufuskie Island on our golf cart. (Cars are not allowed on most parts of the island.)
The weather cleared up nicely so we were able to have the ceremony in front of the lighthouse and overlooking the beach, as planned. It was sunny and warm, with just enough shade from the palm trees and a light breeze to keep everyone cool.
Heidi looked amazing in her dress. I also looked quite dapper with my linen shirt and flip-flops.
Cliff Notes of Ceremony
- Prelude: Jack played a few tunes on the tenor sax.
- Danny pulled out the the aisle runner, got pissed off, ripped the runner and about put a hole in his foot.
- Heidi sprinted down the aisle like Jackie Joyner-Kersee with Pops in tow.
- Welcome: Officiant/Wedding Planner “…special event in which Sam and Heidi declare before you that they choose one another….”
- Presentation of Bride: Pops
- Wedding Message: Easy to say “I love you.” Learn to say “Thank you,” “I’m sorry,” and “Forgive me.” While love is our natural state of being, these other qualities are not as easy to come by. They are not a destination but a journey….”
- Scripture Reading: Lil Sis
- Exchange of Vows: “Best friend for life.” “… to honor, encourage, and support you through our walk together.”
- Scripture Reading: Twin Sis
- Ring Ceremony: “Circle.” “Precious metal - like love, should increase in value.”
- Special Music: Jack and I performed a tear-jerking version of “Can’t Help Falling in Love.” (And right beforehand I stole an early kiss. Score!)
- Benediction: “Lords Prayer” sang by Pops.
- Presentation of Couple: “Sam and Heidi”
- Then we got all kissyface.
We took about 600 pictures. The photographer was very accommodating. My family tried to be funny by bringing props. I probably would have thought the props were funnier if they’d been ready and we weren’t paying the photographer by the hour. We’ll see how those pictures turn out before I make my final decision.
Dinner was great. Jaesan made a toast. Twin Sis made a toast. Aunt Jackie made a toast. There was plenty of food. We previewed the slideshow before the various satellite parties. Everyone loved the ice cream wedding cake - Jack especially.
Later in the evening the family got changed and met back up again at one of the houses. We then went to the ocean and looked at the bioluminescent water . While we were out, we noticed the clear sky so we all sat and watched the stars for a while. I’d never seen so many stars and living in NYC, I’d almost forgotten how amazing the evening sky can be. I think I’d only seen that many stars in a planetarium. We even saw a couple shooting stars.
(BTW, this morning the power went out on the island for a few hours. Somehow when the power came back on, it reset the DSL connection so I was then able to post.)
