Day at the Races
After last week’s brunch at the OTB, I’d told Heidi and Danny that I wanted to go out to Belmont one day before it got too cold. I am sorta afraid of horses (another long story that I’ll share at a later date) but I do think they are beautiful creatures. I’d never been to real horse track, so I wanted to go one day when it wasn’t so crowded with a Triple Crown race. Strangely, my friend, Jen Schanker, invited me to join her and her sister at Monmouth Park on Saturday. After reading a little about the track on the Internet, I found that it was supposed to be one of the most beautiful tracks around, and with an admission of only $2.
Though we’d spoken with him only an hour earlier, Danny pulled his patented trick where he falls off the face of the Earth when it was time to leave. Still, Heidi and I drove to NJ to meet Jen and her sister. As expected, we had a blast. We stayed for 9 of the 10 races. A couple of the races were on turf, the others were on dirt. None of my horses really did that well, but I did have a pretty good feeling about two of them “Call for an Interview” and “Dashboard Drummer.” Dashboard Drummer did come in 3rd during the 9th race. Could this be a sign?
