It is my birthday. I am 29. I don’t really feel any different.

Today’s expected snow reminds me of a time when I was a little boy. My family was supposed to come over for a party, but it snowed so bad they couldn’t come. They called while we were setting up. I’d already placed the paper party plates around the table.

Sad story, I know.

You are cordially and hereby invited to the 29th Annual Sam Gomez Celebration of Life Extravaganza, sponsored in-part by the letter B and the number 7. This year’s event is very special as I have decided to incorporate my annual birthday celebration into my “Thank God I am done with school” festivities. Yes, after a very long 3.5 years, I am now finally done with my MBA. Thanks to all those who listened to me complain over the last several years.

Now, many of you have been have partaken in my birthday merriment in previous years, so you know what to expect. Make sure you wear pants with an elastic waistband so that they stay on your head better. And since this is also a graduation commemoration, I suggest you wear clean underwear.

Best of all, there will be entertainment at this year’s gathering. Instead of the regular “Remember the time Sam did/went/said…” banter, I’ve booked a karaoke room complete with “over 80,000 songs in 8 languages.” (Can you picture Danny F. singing “It’s Raining Men” en Espanol?)

“But, Sam, don’t you REALLY hate karaoke?”

Yes, I do. But the logistics of renting a bus to get all you characters out to Medieval Times really just got out of hand. This is easier and folks can come and go as need be. Folks can still wear suits of armor, if they want.

So, please, come join me this Friday night for my annual celebration of life ceremony, followed by my “How the heck am I going to pay all these student loans” gala.
