The Circus
I am obsessed with the circus. When I was a kid, each year my mom would scrape together whatever change we had so we could go see Ringling Bros. When I was in college, I even took a circus class as an elective. Though I could already juggle - I read a book when I was in high school - in college, I learned how to juggle clubs with a partner. I also learned basic tight rope, trapeze and unicycle. My mom used to tell how my dad travelled with a side show when he was a young man in South American. When we visited my family a couple of months ago, I asked about this and no one seemed to know anything. They all thought he read about all his card and magic tricks in a book.
Today Heidi and I went to see Cirque du Soleil’s “Corteo.” The story is about a dying clown and how he imagines his own funeral taking place with a joyous procession in a carnival atmosphere, while he’s watched over by quietly caring angels.
The show was fantastic! From the opening sequence to the last bow, each performer stole the show! Corteo is only in town for another week. If you get the chance, go see. I was going to post a couple of clips from YouTube, but honestly, the clips don’t do it justice. You have it to see it first hand. I’ve seen several Cirque du Soleil shows and this is - by far - the best!
