“Hillary Is Part of the Lesbian Conspiracy to Control Man”

Posted by Sam under: Around Town.

There’s a guy at the subway stop near my office. He’s been there for years. I call him the Subway Socrates. He looks pretty normal, but he strolls around the platform pontificating about either 1.) current events or 2.) lesbians. When I passed him on Friday, he said, “Hillary is part of the lesbian conspiracy to control man.” I have no idea what that meant, but on an average week, he usually says at least one thing that’s so absurd that it makes me laugh out loud. That then makes me all self-conscious because I have to wonder what that says about me.

So Much For That House

Posted by Sam under: Home and Garden.

Several people have asked me about the house situation. It looks like the house in Bethpage fell through.

After the seller verbally accepted our offer, we secured a lawyer, engineer, inspector and lender. Everything was wham-bam for about a week and a half. Then we got word that he took another offer. We’re not really sure what happened. Anyway, we’re back on the horse and inching close to the 100th house.

Subject: Invitation

Hello good people of NYC. I will be in town for a couple days next week and besides a good chance to see you, I would like to invite you to come out and see one of the most important films of our generation. I usually do not like politically charged documentaries, but this film is just too important.

Looking For: MLK Scholars

Posted by Sam under: Classifieds.

When I was in college, I was a member of the MLK Scholars Program at NYU. A merit-based scholarship program, it was designed to bring together students from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds. As members of the Program, we participated in various seminars, domestic and international travel colloquia, research, educational and cultural activities, and community service. To be frank, if it were not for this program, I would have never be able to attend NYU. Many of my fondest college memories are with this group.

On Thursday night, I went to a reunion celebrating the group’s 20th anniversary. While in college, I never really thought too much of it - we all struggled to make good grades and fit in, just like every other college student - but these guys were among some of the brightest in the US. Among our alum are now doctors, lawyers, priests, professors, entrepreneurs, Broadway actors, film makers, businessmen and women, leaders in not-for-profit, etc. (We even have a celebrity blogger.) The reunion was fantastic. I got to see familiar faces and catch up with old friends.

A year or two ago, I created groups on MySpace and Facebook, in attempt to keep us more in touch with one another. Actually, it has. I’ve heard from several people from as far away as Hawaii.

Anyway, I was looking through some old college files and found a few pages that listed some names. I thought I would post them, in the event 1.) anyone Googled him/herself or 2.) someone knew how to reach one or more of these individuals. In either case, alum are encouraged to join the MLK Scholars Group on Facebook.

Also, if you have lists from other years, feel free to post here or on Facebook.

What An Annoyance

Posted by Sam under: Technology.

I want to try a plugin for my Outlook. In order to do so, I have to post this stupid link and trick it by inviting myself through other email accounts. Lame.

Xobni outlook add-in for your inbox

UPDATE 04/30/08

I finally got my invite and installed the plug-in. It provides emails stats on things like who I exchange email with the most and what time of day they send me the most email. I guess it is all somewhat interesting, but not worth the trouble I had to go through to get the plug-in.

Dream House 70 Something

Posted by Sam under: Home and Garden.

After looking at 70+ houses over the last year, yesterday we found out that our bid has been accepted on a house on Long Island.  In an unexpected rapid turn of events, the engineer was able to come within 24 hours. This morning we spent 3 hours walking around and through what looks like may become our new house. The engineer’s preliminary results looked good.

Tonight we’re headed to Home Depot to look at flooring.

Is This Really Happening?

About Sam Gomez

This is my lil' workshop on the web. I created it to let my friends and family know what's going on with me. It quickly became a place for me to rant about my feelings and publicly humiliate myself - not that I needed yet another medium. Generally, I just share whatever is on my mind (stories, photos, etc.) Read the full about me.
